- Publisher: Harmony Books, Inc. (division of Crown Publishers)
- Publication date: 1979
- Country: USA. New York
- Type: book
- Width: 21 cm
- Height: 27,4 cm
- Pages: 258
Description:
Hardcover? ISBN 450-04465-3
Paperback? ISBN 450-04639-7
Contents:
The 27 page chapter "Books and strips" contains a 12 pages solely about Carl
Barks, which are a very interesting contemplation on his life and comic book
work. The illustrations show a late 1960s(?) photo of Barks; small pictures of
27 Barks comics (19 in greyscale and 8 in colour); and Barks'
1950 "Magazine comics duck" model sheet.
The 7 page chapter "The Carl Barks gallery" shows 8 Barks paintings in a varying
quality:
- CB OIL 54 Family Portrait
- CB OIL 106 Hands Off My Playthings
- CB OIL 51 Visitor from Underground
- CB OIL 107 Oh, Oh!
- Bullet Valley [73-02, red sky]
- CB OIL 84 Season to Be Jolly
- CB OIL 16 Christmas Composition
- CB OIL 35 Golden Helmet [72-20]
The 1980 Dutch translation "Donald Duck - Het Levensverhaal van een
Wereldberoemde Eend" (ISBN: 90&-320-0046-2) contains the 28 page
chapter "Donald Duck in Nederland" (Donald Duck in The Netherlands), which
mentions Barks and inspired artists like Daan Jippes. On page 240, the chapter
shows a photo of a Gevaert Belgium magic lantern film from the company "Real
Filmstrip", called "Donald Duck wordt gestoord", which is a line-art(?) adaption
of Barks' salesman ten-pager of WDC 83. Judging from the photo, the
25 picture film begins with panel 4.1 up to at least panel 4.6.
The article also mentions the film "Donald Duck lijdt Schipbreuk" (Donald Duck
is shipwrecked), which must also be a similar Barks comic adaption. On
page 248, a 1970s letter from Carl Barks is quoted in which he
compliments Daan Jippes
.
The chapter is written by Kees de Bree, the translator of the book.
